Planning perspective
How I’d plan this experience
I’d choose the Alaskan Lodge Adventure and Seafeast if you want one outing to combine a boat ride, a rainforest walk, and a substantial seafood meal rather than focusing on just one of those things. The appeal is the variety: wildlife may appear along the water route, and the lodge visit adds time among Tongass rainforest scenery. Treat wildlife sightings as a possibility, not a promise, and make the meeting point your first planning decision.
A good fit if you want variety
This suits you if the meal is part of the reason to go, but you’d also like scenery and a little exploration before sitting down to eat. The excursion includes a boat journey and a raised rainforest boardwalk, followed by a seafood boil with crab, shrimp, clams, mussels, and sides. Travellers’ comments repeatedly praise the food and describe enjoying the guide-led outing as well; I’d see that as a useful sign of the experience’s balance, not a guarantee that every part will be equally important to you.
I’d choose something more focused if you mainly want a long, strenuous forest hike: the described walk is a lodge boardwalk experience, not a reason to expect an extended backcountry trek.
Set expectations for wildlife
The enclosed boat travels through bays and inlets, with a narrator sharing information about the surrounding land, air, and sea. Eagles, porpoises, and seals are among the wildlife that may be seen; whales are often sighted along the route from May through September. I’d treat those sightings as a bonus rather than the measure of whether the trip delivers. If seeing a particular animal is your main priority, this itinerary doesn’t make that encounter certain.
Get the departure point right
The tour lasts 3 hours and 45 minutes, and you meet 15 minutes before departure. The meeting place depends on where your ship is: Ward Cove guests meet at the Ward Cove Welcome Center, while downtown-ship guests meet by the Rock statue beside the Ketchikan Visitors Bureau. Pay particular attention if you are sailing from Ward Cove: the listed instructions warn that taking the shuttle downtown means missing the tour. I’d confirm which meeting point applies to your ship before arranging anything else.
Consider the walk and dock access
The raised boardwalk offers a way to experience rainforest without a difficult trail, but don’t assume the whole outing is effortless. A moderate level of fitness is advised, and the dock ramp can become steep at low tide; the information specifically cautions that people with limited mobility should not join. Infants must sit on an adult’s lap. My advice is to weigh those constraints before choosing this for a mixed-mobility group, rather than relying on the boardwalk description alone.

Itinerary and highlights
At Clover Pass, you’ll meet your captain and first mate before stepping aboard an enclosed jet boat, the Miss Cindy. Prepare for a thrilling water adventure as your captain navigates through bays and inlets, while your narrator gives you insights on the land, the air, and the sea. Aboard the boat, you will have the opportunity to see the abundant wildlife of southeast Alaska, such as eagles, porpoises, and seals. From May through September, whales are often sighted along the tour route. Silverking’s exclusive elevated boardwalk trail allows you to walk into the normally difficult to access rainforest. Discover it’s secrets like Old Man’s Beard and nursery trees. At the end of the trail, be sure to have your camera ready for the largest known red cedar in the Tongass National Forest. Then, venture back to the lodge for a seafood boil including Dungeness crab, shrimp, mussels, clams, sausage, corn, garlic, pearl onions, and french bread.
